Instead of talking about tea today, let’s talk about the patron saint of the ancient tea-producing village, Phoenix (Fenghuang) Village, the Cankui zushi (Ashamed Patriarch) of Fenghuangshan Temple.
Located in Phoenix (Fenghuang) Village, Dong Ding Mountain, Lugu Township, Fenghuangshan Temple is dedicated to worshiping the shameful ancestor of Yina Mountain. It has a history of more than 300 years and is the religious center of the villagers of Phoenix (Fenghuang) Village and Yonglong Village. The environment of Fenghuangshan Temple is quite unique. There are many mountains around, including Phoenix (Fenghuang) Mountain and Dong Ding Mountain. There is Qilin Lake in front of it. There seems to be a small river in front of my house and a hillside behind.
According to historical records, during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, the ancestor of Zhuang Youguan and his partners brought it from Fujian to Taiwan. Because Phoenix (Fenghuang) Mountain looks like a phoenix, and the temple is located at the foot of Phoenix (Fenghuang) Mountain, it is named " Fenghuangshan Temple ". In the thirteenth year of Qianlong's reign (1784 AD), it was royally named one of the three major temples in Taiwan (the other two are Wanhua Longshan Temple and Tainan Kaiyuan Temple).
According to the research, the Cankui zushi (Ashamed Patriarch) was the only son, formerly known as Pan Liao Quan, who was born in Shaxian County, Fujian Province in the twelfth year of Tang Xianzong Yuanhe (817 AD). I have been curious since I was a child, Cankui zushi (Ashamed Patriarch), why "ashamed"? At that time, Ashamed Patriarch had been preaching (the principles of Buddhism, Taoism, etc.) in Yinna for more than 30 years. One day, he told his disciples that the Buddha followed the Buddhist teaching to save people in the past, but I couldn't do it.
