Hi everyone, I'm Andy.
Today I would like to explain some confusing tea names.
Oolong tea, Jin Xuan tea, Ali Shan tea, Dong Ding tea, Chill High Mountain tea, Oriental Beauty tea.
These Taiwanese tea names sound very different. But some of them are actually the same tea.
For example, High Mountain tea is the same as Ali Shan tea and Oolong tea.
So how can you tell which is which?
Here is a simple diagram,
to help everyone analyse Taiwan tea naming.
Remember, Taiwan tea names usually have four parts,
Flavour + Origin + Variety (Cultivar) + Production Method
Flavor: such as fresh, mild, roasted, muscatel
Origin: such as Ali Shan, Dong Ding
Varieties: QingXin Oolong, Four Season
Production method: tea production and Oxidation process, such as oolong tea and black tea.
There are also some special names. These are actually product names.
For example, Songbai Changqing Tea, Oriental Beauty Tea and MuZha Tieguanyin.
If you take these tea names apart, you can see their composition:
Songbai Changqing Tea = Fresh+Songbailing+Four Seasons+Oolong Tea
Oriental Beauty Tea = Muscatel+Hsinchu County+Qing Xin Da Mo+Oolong Tea
Muzha Tieguanyin = Roasted+MuZha+Tieguanyin+Oolong Tea
